Week one in New Orleans and this city did not disappoint. Food, music, sightseeing and parades!
One night we went to a dive bar called Le Bon Temps Roule, which translates to Let The Good Times Roll. When we were at the Louisiana visitor center we picked up a list of 50 free things to do in New Orleans and this bar was listed for free oysters and live music on Fridays. The oysters were good, the drinks were cheap, and the piano player was great. We have loved all of the live music we have found as we have adventured around this town.
Another day we went sightseeing and to the Crescent City Farmers Market. We bought some fresh shrimp and Penguin made gumbo. It was his first time making gumbo and it was delicious! The shrimp was very fresh and so good.
Easter Sunday in the French Quarter caught us by surprise. We didn't expect it to be so busy but it was and it was awesome! Multiple parades and lots of people dressed up. I loved all the women dressed up in pretty dresses and hats.
One of our big decisions this week has been where and when were we going to get a po-boy :) A friend had recommended we try a fried oyster po-boy and a roast beef po-boy. After a fun Easter day we were hungry and we happened to be watching the parade right near Verti Marte. This market\deli had good reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor so we decided to give them a try. We had the fried oyster & shrimp combo po-boy and a roast beef po-boy. Wow!!! They were both really good but the fried oyster & shrimp combo po-boy was my favorite.
